Why I Work With Small Business Owners

By Trent Derrick, CMT

It’s no secret that small businesses are the backbone of our economy. In 2019, small businesses made up 44% of economic activity and were responsible for two-thirds of new jobs created. (1) Even beyond the numbers, small businesses are paramount to the communities they serve, especially in smaller towns where they bring people together and influence the local culture.

But business owners face plenty of challenges, even in a normal, non-pandemic year. They balance running their businesses with providing for their families and planning for the future, all of which can feel overwhelming. That’s why I’ve dedicated my career to working with small business owners—to help carry some of the financial load and give them the peace of mind that nothing is slipping through the cracks.

What Small Business Owners Need

Owning your own business can give you great freedom and power in life. But it also comes with great responsibility. The problem is that you pour your heart and soul into your business, taking care of your customers and employees, and casting vision for the future of your company. How do you find time to focus on those incredibly important things when you are bogged down by bookkeeping, keeping up with taxes and accounting, and staying on top of cash management, not to mention taking care of your personal finances and planning for retirement?

Because your financial well-being is so tied up in your business, you need the knowledge and experience of someone who understands your situation and can walk you through the process so you can focus your attention on what you’re most passionate about while still succeeding in financial matters.

That’s where I come in. I provide business owners with seamless, comprehensive financial advisory services that meet their unique financial needs.

How I Can Help

Running a business and taxes go hand in hand, and, as many business owners know, taxes can be your biggest expense. But you have enough on your plate without spending your valuable time communicating with multiple financial professionals, such as accountants, bookkeepers, or advisors.

My goal is to remove some of that stress by offering services in conjunction with our network of CPAs so that all your business needs are handled by one team who communicates with each other so you don’t have to coordinate the many moving parts. In this way, we can help you with both accounting and financial advice, expense tracking and general bookkeeping, and create a plan that covers the gamut of your financial needs. The end result? Better sleep at night knowing that your future and the future of your business is in good hands.

Your Business Matters

That’s why I work hard to make sure you and your business are taken care of. Whether it’s setting up an ideal tax strategy, protecting your assets, preparing for unexpected circumstances, or choosing the right retirement plan, I am here for you. Your business matters to me and our community, and we need strong businesses for all of us to stay strong!
